Joey Votto went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, Bronson Arroyo turned in another impressive start and the Cincinnati Reds beat San Francisco 9-3 on Sunday to complete their first three-game sweep of the Giants at home in 14 years. Arroyo also doubled in two runs and Jeff Keppinger scored three times for Cincinnati, which has won three straight for the first time since July 10-12.

Adrian Beltre homered twice and the Seattle Mariners beat the Cleveland Indians 6-4 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep. Beltre’s third multihomer game of the season and 19th of his career helped Seattle win for the seventh time in nine games. Ryan Rowland-Smith (4-2) allowed two runs, one earned, and seven hits over 6 1-3 innings to win his second straight start.

Pedro Martinez pitched six innings for only his second victory since July 7, and the New York Mets homered three times to beat the Florida Marlins 6-2 on Sunday. Back-to-back home runs in the third inning by Nick Evans and David Wright put the Mets ahead to stay. Carlos Beltran added his 21st homer. The first two batters to face Martinez scored, but those were the only runs he allowed.

Miguel Cabrera homered and drove in all four runs in the Detroit Tigers‘ 4-2 win over the Kansas City Royals on Sunday. Cabrera drove in two runs with a bases-loaded double in the eighth to help the Tigers take two-of-three games from the Royals. He also hit a two-run homer in the sixth to tie the game.


White Sox recall RHP Logan (AP)
The Chicago White Sox recalled reliever Boone Logan from Triple-A Charlotte on Sunday. Logan was optioned to Chicago’s top farm club on Aug. 10 after a 12-game stretch in which he allowed 17 earned runs in eight innings. The left-hander is 2-3 with a 5.36 ERA in 48 games with the White Sox this season.

They’re headed for their fifth straight last-place finish in the AL Central, they’re playing at a dusty construction site and their highest-paid player keeps insulting fans.
